Actually theres something else to think about when considering how long to boil eggs. Extra large eggs will need 18 minutes to fully cook large eggs need 15 minutes and medium eggs need 12 minutes. Set a timer to prevent over or undercooking. To cook small eggs to medium let them stand for 14 minutes.
Run the eggs under cold water or place in an ice bath to cool. Do not lift the lid. To get that i boil just enough water to cover the number of eggs i want to boil. They should fit comfortably.
For soft boiled eggs runny yolks solid whites let the eggs sit for 5 minutes less than the time needed to hard cook the egg. To cook extra large eggs to medium let them stand for 17 minutes. I prefer my eggs hard boiled that is with the yolk still a little soft but the white very firm.
